PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECT IN PRIMARY SCHOOL OF GENT  WITH FREINET´S PEDAGOGY (FREINETSCHOOL DE VLIEGER - DAMPOORT)

DESCRIPTION: With the support of the city of Gent, in the context of a project with "Creëer je wijk", I gave photography lessons to a teacher of primary school. Afterwards, together with the teacher, we gave basic photography lessons to the pupils of his class. The pupils choosed as "final" work for this experience, to take photos in the residence house "Claire" for old people in gent. These photos are now as a permanent exposition in the residencial house.

The "ultimate" propose of this project was to give to the teacher of this school "one more tool" in his hard work of teaching pupils coming from foreing families. With special thanks to Jeroen Adriansens and teacher Sven Deschutter for his invaluable support during the project.

The teacher Sven De Schutter wrote for this project (extract):  As a school with Freinet´s pedagogy we give special attention to expression. This expression comes in the first place through the writen and talking "lenguage". But we notice that an important part of our pupils, with mother foreign language, stay in these activities as "outsiders". We realize as teachers, that frecuently we know very little about these pupils, their way of being, their personality and we notice a big contrast with our pupils with the Nederlands as mother language. Through Photography we´ll try to take a look of their individual capaciy of expression. His real "being" of the child.
